    Description

This is a fabulous 60s era purple velvet coat that is richly embroidered in metallic gold and silver thread with beaded sequin accents in colours of pink, red, green, blue and yellow.  This would have been a resplendent garment during the 60s, fit for a rock star - think Jimi Hendrix or Mick Jagger.  This would have been made in India, but still would have been a fairly expensive coat even during the 60s.  It has no closures and would have been worn open.  It is lined in a grey toned cotton through the body with basted-in black lining in the sleeves.
Size: No size is indicated, and although this would fit a small size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the coat into account:
Shoulders: 16” from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
    Sleeves: 20 1/2” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
    Sleeve inseam: 14”
Bust: 36” around with a 2 1/2” gap at the front opening bust area
Waist: 31" around with a 1 1/2” gap at the front opening waist area
Hips: 36" around with a 1 1/2” gap at the front opening waist area
    Length: 41“, measured lying flat
Condition: It is in very good condition, very clean with shiny embroidery.  The velvet has some toning to it - in places tending towards maroon and overall more towards a bluish purple, noticeable in the photo of the back.  I think that this is normal as Indian garments of that era tended to not be “perfect”, which is actually part of their charm.
This is a rare find - I don’t think that these were common even during the 60s, so it is a special piece!
